It was two years ago that BMW M3 rejoined the M performance lineup and it was also two years ago, that a BMW M3 Touring was promised. It was said to expect an approximate two-year series development process. True enough. Two years later, the first-ever BMW M3 Touring was announced – in time for the 50th anniversary of BMW G GmbH.
With the 2023 BMW M3 Touring, it joins the M stable of the sedan, coupe, and convertible as the fourth model type. It will make its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June 2022.
Following that, books will be open in September 2022 ahead of a market launch that will get underway with the start of production in November 2022. I believe that would make the M3 Touring a 2023 model. I could be wrong.
Anyhoo, the all-new M3 Touring is powered by a 510 HP version of the six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology with 650 Nm (479 lb-ft), paired to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The latest addition to the M range is available exclusively in BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive which makes 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds and only 12.9 seconds to take it from 0-200 km/h (124 mph). The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) which can be bumped up to 280 km/h (174 mph) with the M Driver’s Package.
This being an M performance car naturally has a bunch of M-specific design cues like vertically arranged, frameless BMW kidney grille (yes, the awkwardly large kidney grille). It also has large side air intakes, powerfully sculpted wheel arches, and prominently extended side skirts.
