OnePlus is not known for its budget phone until recent years. Then again, the Nord and Nord N Series weren’t exactly budget. On a parallel development, OnePlus is not big in China even though it is a China-based company. But it looks like the Oppo-owned, BKK Electronics company is determined to change that too.
In addition to the regular flagships, OnePlus has recently introduced its budget devices in China (the Nord series wasn’t available in China), the OnePlus Ace series. Wait a minute. Is OnePlus being handed with one of Oppo’s babies? It looks like Oppo has moved its Ace line to OnePlus.
Anyways, the Ace was revealed last month, and yesterday, China time, an even cheaper version known as “Race Edition” was revealed. Well, about that… While both the OnePlus Ace and OnePlus Ace Racing Edition appeared to be from the same series, the design of the phones was entirely different.
The Ace has a la Apple 13 square off design while the Race Edition has more curves and rocks a seamless camera bump adopted by Oppo Find X3, and later Oppo Find X5 and Find N.
Price-wise, OnePlus Ace starts at 2,499 yuan which works out to be around 370 bucks. The Racing Edition is even more affordable, starting at 1,999 yuan, or about US$296. Now, those are truly affordable OnePlus that we may not have imagined being possible just a few years ago. Keep going to find a table of the key specs for the two devices.
