This is a one-of-a-kind camera made in collaboration between Leitz Photographica Auction and Leica AG for this year’s auction. It is not hard to see why this camera is a stand-out.
I mean, it has gold whenever technically possible. All metal parts of this unique analog Leica MP with 0.72 finder are galvanically gold-plated and wrapped in ostrich leather.
The Leica MP Unique Gold Camera (Sale No. 40183) is loud yet minimal – thanks in part to the lack of engravings – save for the serial number hidden on the underside of the winding lever and the special black Elmar-M 2.8/50mm no.3739015 with engravings filled with gold and red paint. This one-of-one analog camera is really a sight to behold.
Also included is a maker’s box for the body and a certificate of authenticity. The Leica MP Unique Gold Camera will go on the block at the 40th Leitz Photographica Auction.
It is expected to fetch 16.000-20.000 euros (or about US$16,833-21,042, based on today’s going rate). All proceeds from the sale will go to a non-profit organization in Austria and Germany for charitable purposes. Though no specifics were offered.
Leitz Photographica Auction is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, btw. The auction is set to happen at Am Leitz Park 6, Leica World (2nd floor) 35578 Wetzlar, Germany on June 11, 2022, at 11 AM.
However, bidding for the items is already in progress, with this particular item having received quite a few bids, pushing it to the current 13.000,00 euro (or around US$13,680).
