Bandai Namco Group and Sunrise just cannot stop putting up life-size Gundam statues. The latest life-size Gundam is the RX-93ff ν (Nu) Gundam and it will appear at the LaLaport Fukuoka (not to be confused with the LaLaport in Shanghai Jinqiao) on the April 24.
At 24.8 meters (81.4 feet), the full-scale RX-93ff is the tallest Gundam statue to date, towering over the Freedom Gundam in Shanghai (18 meters; 59′), the Yokohama’s RX-78-2 moving Gundam (18 meters; 59′), and even surpassing the RX-0 Unicron Gundam in Tokyo which is at a grand 19.7 meters (64.6′) tall.
The official reveals (like they can hide it at all) of the full-scale RX-93ff Nu Gundam also coincides with the opening of the Gundam Park Fukuoka, located on the fourth floor of the Mitsui Shopping Park Lalaport Fukuoka.
Interestingly, the new Gundam statue boasts a movable upper and lower right arm, as well as 62 light elements to recreate the scene where Amuro Ray’s ν Gundam pushes back the asteroid Axis in the 1988’s movie, Mobile Suit Gundam Char’s Counterattack.
Apparently, it will have a “movable face” too. TBH, I cannot imagine how “movable” the face would be. We will just have to wait and see on April 27. Anyways, the lights and the moving stuff will be part of the special night show which will work in conjunction with two newly created images that will be projected onto the wall of the Lalaport Fukuoka building.
A special video of the battle between Amuro and Char in the asteroid Axis scene will also be screened.
Fans in Japan are in for a real treat because there are more activities, including the screening of two Gundam movies, Mobile Suit Gundam Counterattack Char and Mobile Suit Gundam Flash Hathaway, at the Toho Cinemas at Lalaport Fukuoka on select days and time slots.
After ogling the gigantic statue, fans can make their way to the Gundam Park Fukuoka where three areas of entertainment await.
There is the sports entertainment area where there will be hands-on activities with the Gundam franchise, there is the Gundam Side-F area with more information about the series and stuff to buy, and last but not least, there is the Namco area, where you can enjoy arcade games as well as giving a go with the various claw machines.
To commemorate the opening of the Gundam Park Fukuoka, from April 15 to April 25, visitors will be able to play the Mobile Suit Gundam: Bonds of the Battlefield II for free.
Over at the Gundam Side-F, you will be greeted by two 1/12 scale statues of νGundam and Sazabi – created based on the design data of the Real Grade (RG) Gunpla kits, at the entrance.
In addition, toys and model kits of the RX-93ffνGundam will also be available (but of course), including the Chogokin line Robot Soul die-cast action figure (5,500 yen), the Superalloy RX-93ffνGundam (price TBA), RG 1/44 RX-93ffνGundam gunpla kit (4,950 yen), Entry Grade 1/144 RX-93ffνGundam (1,430 yen), and BB Warrior RX-93ffνGundam (1,650 yen).
Fans can also look out for the original photo book of the full-scale RX-93ff v (Nu) Gundam statue. The 20-page literature will retail for 990 yen.
Since most of us won’t be able to physically experience this new attraction in Fukuoka, Japan, you may drool over the information on the official statue page [JP] and the official Gundam Park website [JP].
