Between becoming an actual race car driver and pretending to be one with a self-bought race car, there is a more affordable way to feel as if you are part of motorsports history. And that is to buy a piece of automemorabilia. Not just any automemorabilia, btw.
It will have to be an automemorabilia with quite some significance, such as the 1981 Ferrari 512 BBB Le Mans Front Bodywork. The rarity of the 1981 Ferrari 512 BBB Le Mans is what makes this piece of the car so collector’s worthy. It was a piece of Ferrari history that has seen actions in 1981 and 1982 Le Mans 24 Hours 512 BBB.
This front end was fitted on chassis 35529 which made its racing debut at the 1000km of Monza in April 1981 where it claimed the IMSA GTX/GTP class win.
The car would then go on to compete in two 24 Hours of Le Mans races, as well as the 1982 6 Hours of Enna-Pergusa, where it came in sixth overall.
That was not it. The car also competed in the 1000km of Mugello where it placed tenth.
The most beautiful part of this automemorabilia is that it bears the mark of what it has gone through. The damaged decals, stone chips in the lower parts, and whatnot, proudly show a weathered piece of history.
Now for the good news. The 1981 Ferrari 512 BBB Le Mans Front Bodywork is now on the block on Car & Classic where you can have a shot at taking it home. The auction, which is already ongoing, will end in 5 days on April 12, 00:30 hours. As it stands, the item has received two bids, putting it at 800 euros, or about US$874 based on today’s going rate.
