If you have not heard of Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent Metropolis – a movie that is considered as one of the most influential works of science fiction on film, then you are probably not the biggest sci-fi fan. Or maybe you are just too young to know.
I vaguely remember it but only of the image of Maria. Not the heroine but the so-called The Machine Man. The Machine Man or Maschinenmensch (literally, Machine Person) is an android that was created by scientist Rotwang initially with the intention to resurrect Hel, the love of his life who left him to marry the city’s master, Joh Fredersen. Hel died when giving birth to Fredersen’s son.
Anyhoo, what you see here is a model kit of The Machine Man when she was first initiated by Rotwang to show Fredersen. In this iconic scene, the robot stood up in front of the seat that she previously sat on. This iconic robot from the silver screen and a piece of the sci-fi genre is available as a vinyl figure money can buy.
Manufactured by X-PLUS, the Metropolis Machine Man Model Kit is presented as a 1/8 scale plastic model kit that comes unassembled and unpainted. The figure is, of course, based on the design by Walter Schulze-Mittendorf. The figure stands about 26 cm (about 10 inches) tall and comes with the seat, on a platform, as seen in the film.
We are not sure if the reservation for the kit is over on Shonen Ric or it has not begun. However, we noted that Mamegyorai.com is now taking pre-orders for Metropolis Machine Man Model Kit by X-PLUS. The asking price of the kit is 4,510 yen (which is about US$39).
