At this point, a wearable air purifier is nothing new. It was once a concept but it is now something money can buy with a few makes from major players like Razer, LG, and will.i.am’s Xupermask, for example, to choose from. Soon, Dyson will join the market too.
Dyson’s wearable air purifier is called Dyson Zone. Like Xupermask, Dyson Zone has headphone functionality too but Dyson’s audio solution is literally a pair of headphones.
Dyson Zone is pretty much a wearable air purifier spliced with a pair of headphones. The headphone is not superfluous, btw. It is born out of necessity – both for the comfort wear of the air purifier and for the air purifier’s performance.
The earcups are where the compressors of the air purifier are located. In other words, you can use the headphone without the mask but you cannot use the mask without the mask – whether or not you are listening to anything or not.
On the plus side, it is active air purification as opposed to passive purification. This means air is actually being blown at your lower face. Speaking of air purification, it has four modes: low, medium, high, and auto.
The mask or “visor” attaches to the headphone magnetically and does have room to insert a face mask.
As a pair of noise-canceling cans, it offers three ANC modes, namely, isolation, conversation, and transparency – all of which are self-explanatory.
The air purifier is app-enabled too.
While it may appear that Dyson is gunning at the pandemic with Dyson Zone, it is not. It is designed with the intent of keeping pollution out of your lung and has been in development since 6 years ago. Between now and then, it has seen no less than 500 prototypes.
Dyson said the device will be hitting the market this year sometime in Autumn, though it did not share exactly when or how much it will cost. You may learn more about Dyson Zone Air Purifying Headphones over at the official announcement pages HERE and HERE.
