Diageo-owned Mortlach Scotch Whisky has teamed up with designer Luca Nichetto of Nichetto Studio for a bespoke decanter called SEI. SEI is the first product born out of Mortlach by Design, a program that introduces a series of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted whisky experience-related products from world-renowned designers.
The hexagonal base is inspired by the six stills used to craft the whisky while the organic form that emerged from the six-sided base is both mysterious and natural, much like the spirit itself. SEI is Italian for ‘six’. Rounding up the design is a sanded finish that accentuates the color of the liquid within, giving it (the liquid) a hue that matches the tone popular in Murano glass.
The sanded finish, which is an uncommon treatment in a decanter, is a beautiful touch. Which, TBH, is kind of the feature that drew me to the SEI Decanter. Strange. I know. But that’s just me.
Mortlach by Design SEI Decanter by Luca Nichetto is part of an exhibition, Vessels, by SIZED.STUDIO where the decanter can be purchased. However, we are not sure how much it costs. The exhibition, which started on February 16 will run for two weeks (February 27), showcases over 100 vessels from collaborators, designers, arts, and dealers.
