Remember the car that wanted to be America’s Hypercar, the Hennessey Venom F5 by Hennessey Performance sub-division, Hennessey Special Vehicles? Unbeknownst to us, a final production version was offered up for sale in December 2020 and now, there is a 2021 model with an entirely new drivetrain.
The 2021 Hennessey Venom F5 touts a completely new design, chassis, and carbon fiber monocoque with a focus on aerodynamics to achieve the lowest possible drag. Though at 0.39 Cd, the drag coefficient isn’t the best, IMHO. Some sedans are doing 0.28 and under.
Powered by a rear-mid-mounted 6.6L V8 twin-turbo engine that produces a mind-bending 1,817 horsepower and turns out a chassis-twisting torque of 1,193 lb-ft (1,617 Nm) (at a fairly low 5,000 RPM, btw), the 2021 Hennessey Venom F5 is true America’s hypercar that rockets to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a scant 2.6 seconds.
No surprise here because this car weighs just 1,360 kilograms (2,998 lbs) which means it has a pretty insane power-to-weight ratio of 1.34 hp-per-kg (or 1,298 hp-per-ton).
Put pedal to the metal, the new Venom F5 will keep going until it hit its max speed of over (also a mind-boggling) 311 mph or 500+ km/h (!).
A longitudinally mounted semi-automatic gearbox with paddle shifter puts the raw power to good use at the rear wheels.
Each car features over 3,000 bespoke parts, including bespoke calipers (6-pod front and 4-pod rear).
The car is so exquisite that Hennessey had an Italian company craft a bespoke car cover for it.
Other spec-sheet details include double-wishbone independent suspension with fully adjustable coilover Penske dampers front and rear, electric-assisted rack and pinion steering, forged aluminum-alloy wheels (19-inch front, 20-inch rear), carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon fiber front splitter, and carbon fiber rear diffuser.
The new Venom F5 further features 5 driving modes (Sport, Wet, Drag, Track, F5), a traction control system with limited ESP, launch control, carbon fiber with leather steering wheel, machined aluminum pedals, a 7-inch driver display, and a 9-inch Alpine interactive touchscreen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto for infotainment. Oh, there’s also a separate 1.3-inch touchscreen for AC control.
We are not sure of the price but we believe it is the price on request. Speaking of which, the 2021 Hennessey Venom F5 is available to reserve now from Hennessey Special Vehicles.
