Guo Pei, the Chinese fashion designer best known in the west for designing Rihanna’s trailing yellow grown, also has her hands in designing dresses for another famous “personality”: Barbie.
Guo Pei’s miniature creation can be seen in Mattel’s latest Barbie doll, the Barbie Lunar New Year Doll Designed by Guo Pei. China’s renowned couturiers who had her hands in designing dresses for many Chinese celebrities gave Barbie a traditional Chinese dress-inspired dress in resplendent red, accented with embroidery details in gold.
The combination of gold against red really pops. The embroidery features motifs of water and wave, along with symbolic golden phoenixes. The phoenix theme does not end at embroidery; it can be found as a functional hair accessory.
The Barbie Lunar New Year Doll Designed by Guo Pei is available exclusively from creations.mattel.com for US$75.
Each doll comes with a doll stand and a Certificate of Authenticity and is packaged inside a very western yet very festivity box.
