Well, what do you know? 1984’s Firestarter sci-fi horror flick based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King is getting a reboot. The new version stars Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the child with pyrokinesis, Charlene “Charlie” McGee. Yes, believe it or not, the former high school heartthrob is Ryan’s on-screen daddy. Damn, how time flies. High School Musical was like yesterday!
Anyways, the premise remains unchanged. You know, the girl develops the ability to start a fire (hence, the name Firestarter) and when the government learned about it, they can’t wait to get her on the lab table. So, the young father is determined not just to keep her from being captured but also to coach her on how to control the newfound ability, so she will not be a danger to herself and others.
The plot is fairly mundane but for old-time sake, it is a movie that I am looking forward to. What about you?
The Firestarter (2022) is scheduled to hit the theaters and stream on NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock on May 13, 2022. Meanwhile, skip ahead for the awesome trailer.
