Never mind that the Zenbook line of ultrabook from ASUS was first introduced only 14 years after ASUS to the Mir space station for a 600-day space mission because there is now a Zenbook that celebrates this milestone of the Taiwan-based computer maker.
For those who don’t already know, ASUS celebrated the launch of its first laptop, the ASUS P6300, in 1997 by sending it on a “space mission” in the same year. The P6300, along with two ASUS P6100 laptops, were sent on board the Mir Station for 600-day.
To commemorate the 25 years of ASUS laptops in space, ASUS has released the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition. This rig ain’t no a simple cosmetic tweaks of the Zenbook 14X, btw.
Featuring unique space-themed design details and finished in a special Zero-G Titanium color, the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition further boasts a 3.5-inch OLED companion display on the exterior of the lid.
This secondary display can be configured to show customized messages and animations. It is a novel feature that is possibly useless to most. But if in my hands, I would loop a video of space view of our little blue marble on the display because, you know, Space Edition.
In addition, the Space Edition has a build that complies with the ultra-tough US Space Systems Standard SMC-S-016A testing protocols and there it is capable of withstanding extreme temperatures (-24o to 61oC) and sustaining vibration of between 20-2000 Hz.
Under the hood, it is powered by up to 12th Generation Intel Core i9 H-Series processors, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 32 GB RAM, a PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD, and Intel WiFi 6E. The ASUS Zenbook 14X Space Edition has a 16:10 2.8K 90 Hz OLED HDR PANTONE Validated touchscreen display.
The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition is expected to be available in Q2 2022 with pricing to be advised.
