Volkswagen is no stranger to the SUV and its sub-segment SUV Coupe, and while it does have an electric SUV, it hasn’t had an all-electric SUV coupe yet. Well, that’s until now.
Folks, meet the new Volkswagen ID.5 e-SUV Coupé. Alright. You probably have heard of it already. So, we are just going to let you know that pre-sales for the ID.5 have just been launched. Well, at least, it is in Germany.
The 2022 Volkswagen ID.5 e-SUV Coupé is offered with three engine options: ID.5 Pro, ID.5 Pro Performance, and ID.5 GTX. The latter is the range-topper armed with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that offers a peak output of 220 kW (295 HP) and makes 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.3 seconds.
Additionally, the ID.5 GTX has a peak charging power of up to 150 kW which affords it a 100 km (62 miles) range with just 6 minutes of charging at fast-charging stations.
Meanwhile, the ID.5 Pro and the ID.5 Pro Performance are two-wheel drive variants that offer a peak output of 128 kW (172 HP) and 150 kW (201 HP), respectively. The ID.5 Pro and the ID.5 Pro Performance charging peak out at 135 kW.
Anyhoo, whichever engine you choose, it will be paired to a large 77 kWh battery system which provides a range of up to 520 km or 323 miles (or 490 km or 304 miles for the ID.5 GTX).
With the 2022 Volkswagen ID.5 e-SUV Coupé, customers will be treated to the new ID.Software 3.0 which can be updated over-the-air and there is, of course, a full suite of connectivity coupled with the latest infotainment and assist systems.
The 2022 Volkswagen ID.5 e-SUV Coupé is available to order in Germany with a starting price of 46,515 euros (about US$52,169). No words the U.S. availability. In the meantime, here’s the intro video:
