The Huawei Mate60 RS Ultimate Design isn’t the only star in the Ultimate Design series. The Chinese telecommunications giant has also unveiled a flagship of the flagships smartwatch fittingly named the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design. At first glance, this smart wristwatch exudes luxury, and for good reason; it has a luxurious black and gold design and comes with a starting price of 21,999 yuan, which translates to a hefty US$3,057 based on current going rates. Extravagant, indeed!
The watch’s design draws inspiration from a ship’s helm, featuring a black and clear nano-microcrystalline ceramic bezel that resembles the tranquil sea at night. But what truly sets it apart is the opulent touch of luxury: the bezel is adorned with six segments of 18K gold, evoking the design of a ship’s helm, while the gold crown symbolizes a lighthouse’s guiding light piercing through the night, warning ships of the dangerous jagged rocks that lurk beneath the surface of the sea.
While the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design [CH] unquestionably exudes luxury, it’s also marketed as a rugged adventure smartwatch, ready to accompany you on maritime journeys, mountain ascents, and deep-sea dives – a rarity among smartwatches.
Speaking of a rugged adventure smartwatch. It’s equipped for off-the-grid adventures with a two-way Beidou satellite messaging system that enables you to send Beidou satellite messages to other mobile devices when cellular service is unavailable. However, there are limitations. Recipients can only reply via preset messages from a companion app or by visiting a URL link with the text message if they don’t have the app.
In terms of satellite features, the watch boasts a five-star dual-frequency positioning system. It also offers a breadcrumb feature to help you retrace your steps to a marked point. Furthermore, the watch features a special dark mode for a clear, non-glaring display in low-light conditions.
For diving enthusiasts, the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design doubles as a smart dive watch, with waterproofing up to 10ATM, allowing for dives up to 100 meters (330 feet). It supports various dive modes, including scuba diving and free diving, and can record data from dives up to 100 meters deep.
And if golfing is more your style, this watch has you covered with support for over 320 golf course maps across China, complete with detailed green and bunker information. It even enables you to calculate stroke performance, fairway and green rates, and more.
However, it’s worth noting that this smartwatch might not suit everyone’s wrist due to its substantial size – the case measures 49.4 mm (1.9 inches) in diameter and 13 mm (0.5 inches) in thickness. Nevertheless, it remains relatively lightweight at just 78g (2.75 oz.).
Some technical details include a 1.5″ LTPO AMOLED display with a 466 by 466 resolution, sapphire glass, an amorphous zirconium case, a ceramic case back, a gold-inlaid ceramic bezel, a range of sensors, three physical buttons (including one multi-function crown), NFC, Bluetooth (version unspecified), a built-in speaker and microphone, and a rechargeable battery with up to 14 days of operation on a single charge. The specific chipset powering it remains undisclosed.
The watch comes with a gold titanium strap, perfect for formal occasions, and is also supplied with a black-gold HNBR band which is more suitable for everyday use and adventure time.
The Huawei Watch Ultimate Design is available for purchase in China [CH] at the starting price mentioned earlier. It’s a natural companion to HarmonyOS-powered smartphones (obviously) but also compatible with Android phones running Android 8.0 and above, as well as iPhones running iOS 13 and later.
