These are the new Denon PerL Pro and PerL True Wireless Sound Earbuds, and they make no apology about their size. And we thought the thing that goes into ears and produces sound can’t go any larger than the original Pixel Buds. But the size of the new PerL series TWS is for good reasons.
In case anyone’s curious, PerL is intentionally spelled with the capital ‘P’ and ‘L’. And it ain’t just a fancy model name dreamed up by the marketers, or maybe it is, anyhoo… it stands for “Personalized Listening”. Denon hopes to stand out in a sea of TWS with Masimo’s patented “Adaptive Acoustic Technology” (AAT) to produce personalized sound for, you know, a unique listening experience.
AAT automatically measures the wearer’s hearing and then creates a profile perfectly tuned to the wearer. Meanwhile, Denon’s signature sound – hand-tuned by the Denon sound master – delivers a vivid and spacious audio experience.
Both models are outfitted with 10 mm drivers. However, the Pro model is rocking an ultralow-distortion triple-layer titanium diaphragm dynamic driver as opposed to the dynamic, low-distortion driver found on the regular Denon PerL model.
Moreover, the PerL connects via Bluetooth 5.0 with no support for multipoint connection while the Pro gets the love of Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint connection support.
The Denon PerL features active noise canceling (obviously), adjustable EQ, adjustable bass, fit detection, 6 hours of earbud battery life (24 hours with case), customizable touch controls, and a weather and sweat resistance construction (IPX4).
The Denon PerL Pro, on the other hand, is everything the PerL is, plus it boasts Qualcomm aptX lossless technology, spatial audio from Dirac Virtuo, and it has a longer earbud battery life at 8 hours (or a whopping 32 hours with case).
The Pro also benefits from adaptive active noise cancellation. Because it has adaptive ANC, the Pro packs more mics (4 on each side, including 2 bone conduction) whereas the PerL has only 2 mics.
Both models come supplied with four sizes of foam tips (XS, S, M, and L), and a pair of secure-fit wings for active lifestyle use.
The Denon PerL Pro and PerL True Wireless Sound Earbuds are available now for US$199 and US$349. Not cheap. Then again, we aren’t expecting otherwise, do we?
