Porsche Vision 357 Speedster Concept Car: It’s Open Top And Electric

Remember the drool-worthy Porsche Vision 357 concept car designed to celebrate its 75th year and the first Porsche model, the 356 ‘No. 1’ Roadster? Well, the German luxury sports car marque has unveiled another 357 but this time, without the top. Folks, meet the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster, the sister model to the closed Porsche Vision 357 and a car that only celebrates the marque’s heritage but also the 30th anniversary of the famed Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Like the closed 357, the design is unmistakably an homage to the 356 but it is no twin of the 357; the design is different and so is the powertrain. The open-top 357 has a shortened front windscreen which is typical of a speedster and it has a one-sided tonneau cover that was once common on open-top sports cars. Technologically it is an all-electric automobile that is based on the 718 GT4 e-Performance. This means it shares the same electric motors and battery as the Mission R and the chassis from the 718 GT4 Clubsport.

For this concept, Porsche has opted for a two-color concept with two gray tones: Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic. This is inspired by historic motorsport forerunners, like the front fenders used to protect against flying rocks during racing and the front wings, which feature the darker Metallic Color. Interestingly, the front wheels are “infected” by the Grivelo Grey Metallic.

Like its sister concept, the Speedster concept also sports the anniversary logo with the large “75” and the two years “1948” and “2023” but in Grivelo Grey Metallic, accentuated by Miami Blue. It also has cameras for side mirrors which are positioned further forward on the fenders like its classic forebears. The camera side mirrors looked like little winglets.

Other highlights include 20-inch magnesium wheels with carbon fiber hubcaps and central locks, four-point light signet on the front features a round design evocative of the Porsche 356, rear lights sit behind a patterned array of points milled into the body, vertical grilled pattern in the rear with an integrated third-brake light, low-slung seat position, CFRP seat shell integrated into the monocoque, Racetex-covered pads with six-point seat belt with a Miami Blue belt strap, instrument cluster on steering column as a transparent surface, a multi-function racing steering wheel, and a carbon weave finished dashboard – just to name a few.
