I Have Absolutely No Idea Why There Is A Need For A Redmagic 8S Pro

A couple of weeks ago Redmagic revealed a new Redmagic 8 device in China, the Redmagic 8S Pro. Today, the Redmagic 8S Pro has been revealed for the international market. I know. You must be curious what is the difference between the new Redmagic 8S Pro and Redmgic 8 Pro. Well, to be honest, there are very few differences but we can start with the appearance.

While the new Redmagic 8S Pro does have the same metal frame and a glass back design as the regular 8 Pro, it differentiates itself aesthetically through colors which it gets Midnight, Aurora, and Platinum. I believe all three colors will have the CNC-style machine line etching.

The display is identical too, except that the 120 Hz (adaptive) 6.8” FHD+ display’s color gamut is not 100% DCI-P3 (not DCI-P) and it has an ICE 12 “multi-dimensional cooling system” (as opposed to 11). But the specifications appear for the cooling system appear to be the same. So, I really have no idea what has changed.

However, there is one key update and that is it has a boosted Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which it just refers to as “the latest version”.

With this “latest version” SoC, the Kryo cores have a max clock speed of 3.36 GHz (as opposed to the regular 8 Pro’s 3.2 GHz) and the Adreno 740 GPU maxes out at 719 MHz instead of 680 MHz. Apparently, this contributes to 5% higher CPU and 5.7% higher GPU performance.

The rest of the specs remain the same, including the 6,000 mAh battery with support for 65 W fast charging. It is worth noting that China’s version has 80 W charging as standard. Over in China, there is a ‘plus’ model as in the case of the Redmagic 8 Pro with the global market will not be getting.

Redmagic will be offering early bird deals from July 27 to August 02 before its open sales on August 03. Prices start at US$650. If you ask me, this device is totally unnecessary other than to show that they are the first to use the boosted Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip besides Samsung. So, yeah, I have absolutely no idea why there is a need for a Redmagic 8S Pro.
