Formerly Swiss, now Hong Kong watchmaker Solvil et Titus synonymous with love and romance has partnered with Japanese anime One Piece’s movie, One Piece Film: Red to release a collection of timepieces. To be honest, I am surprised by the collab. Solvil et Titus is mostly known for its formal pieces while One Piece is adventurous and fun. It is anything but serious or romantic, IMHO. I’d think it is an odd collab but here it is anyways the Solvil et Titus x One Piece Film Red Watch Collection.
There are three timepieces in the Solvil et Titus x One Piece Film Red Watch Collection, each themed after a key character, namely, Luffy, Uta, and Shanks.
The Luffy model features a camo pattern made up of the silhouette of the Straw Hat Pirates crew on a black sunray dial, Luffy’s skull icon on the second hand, the steering wheel sub-dial at 6 o’clock position with a small anchor hand in red, a silhouette of the team on the side of the watch case, and Luffy’s scar on the crown.
The watch further features a quote from the protagonist “I’m gonna be the king of the pirates!” in English on the red inner bezel, between 12 and 3 o’clock position. There is another quote, in Japanese, from the movie engraved on the case back along with the limited edition number, and an image of Luffy and the One Piece Film: Red logo printed on the glass case back.
The Uta model is inspired by the character’s red and white dual-tone hair. The two colors can be found on the aluminum bezel, decorated with musical notes, set against a rose gold stainless steel case. The dazzling pink sunray dial is inspired by Uta’s performance at the concert while a silhouette of her dancing can be found as an emblem at the 12 o’clock position.
Two of the three subdials – specifically, the dials at 3 and 9 o’clock – feature bezels inspired by the rainbow-colored cuffs of Uta’s jacket while the subdial at 6 o’clock is surrounded by musical notes. All three dials are completed with hands inspired by Uta’s braided hairstyle.
The hour and minute hands are finished in super luminous coating and so are the wings of Uta’s silhouette at 12 o’clock. Uta’s name can also be found engraved on the crown and her quote – in Japanese – from the movie is engraved on the case back along with the limited-edition number circling an image of Uta and One Piece Film: Red image and branding.
The One Piece Film: Red branding is also engraved on the metal bracelet of both the Luffy and Uta timepieces.
Finally, there’s the Shanks model, which rocks a burgundy gradient dial decorated with the iconic scar of Shanks’ left eye on the left of the dial, also serving as the background to one of the subdials. The same scar can be found engraved on the timepiece’s crown too which is kind of cool.
The subdial at 6 o’clock is Shanks’ skull icon with the man’s sword as the dial’s hand. Further decorating the front of the watch is a dialog between Shanks and Uta printed on the inner bezel of the watch. Lume hands as well lume indices on the main dial and two of the three subdials come standard.
Around the back, the smooth, rounded case back features a quote of Shanks’ from the movie – in Japanese – engraved along with the limited-edition number, before finally rounding up with an image of Shanks from the movie and the movie’s branding in the center.
Completing Shanks Sovil et Titus model is a two-tone red/burgundy leather strap laser etched with the silhouette of Shanks and Uta, and a metal clasp engraved with the word “WANTED”.
The Solvil et Titus x One Piece Film: Red Luffy has a limited run of just 500 pieces, each going for 3,180 HKD (about US$405). Meanwhile both the Solvil et Titus x One Piece Film: Red Uta and Solvil et Titus x One Piece Film: Red Shanks have a limited run of 300 pieces each and sells for 3,080 and 2,780 Hong Kong dollars (around US$392 and US$354), respectively.
