Fans of 80s sci-fi crimefighting Robocop and robopocalypse sci-fi flick Terminator will want to check out these two new action figures from Japanese toymaker Medicom Toy’s MAFEX line.
These two action figures, namely, MAFEX Robocop Murphy Head Damage Ver. from the 1987 Robocop movie and MAFEX T-800 (T2: Battle Damage Ver.) from the second Terminator movie, Terminal 2: Judgment Day, proved yet again that affordable collectible, poseable figures can have decent, pretty damn accurate head sculpts.
The MAFEX Robocop Murphy Head Damage Ver. (MAFEX No. 192) [JP] stands about 160 mm (6.3 inches) tall and boasts a seriously accurate head sculpt (for this price point) of Peter Weller who played Detroit police officer Alex Murphy who became Robocop.
In addition to an accurate face of Weller, the mechanical back of the head is also recreated. Murphy’s head is affixed to a body featuring newly shaped armor (with aforementioned battle damage effects) and the figure comes with a couple of new accessories, including baby food and a heavy rifle.
Meanwhile, the MAFEX T-800 (T2: Battle Damage Ver.) (MAFEX No. 191) [JP] has a head prototype production by Kyoichi Shimazaki of PERFECT-STUDIO.
The head sculpt is in the likeness of Arnold Schwarzenegger and features serious damage sustained from a battle with the super advanced, shape-shifting T-1000. The damaged head sculpt has the right of the endoskeleton exposed with realistic scaring and torn flesh. Probably not a figure for the queasy.
In addition, the 160 mm (6.3 inches) figure has a severed left hand, also exposing his endoskeleton up to the wrist. The look is completed with a torn sleeve and torn pants that also exposed part of the Terminator’s metal skeleton.
The figure is supplied with a few accessories, including the shotgun, a metal bar, and a thumbs-up arm on a molten metal base that replicates the movie’s final scene.
The MAFEX Robocop Murphy Head Damage Ver. (MAFEX No. 192) is scheduled to be released in June 2023 for 10,780 yen (approx. US$75). The MAFEX T-800 (T2: Battle Damage Ver.) (MAFEX No. 191) will be available in August 2023, also for 10,780 yen.
