For this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (July 21-24, 2022), Mattel dedicated 288 hours to the fans and filled each hour with crazy product reveals, insider access, collectibles, and more.
Starting on Monday, July 11, Mattel has offered exclusive collectibles leading up to SDCC in a “12 Days of Fandom”’ event which eventually led to a 288-hour sale of the 2022 lineup. Fret not if you did not make it to the event because Mattel is letting you score all of its SDCC 2022 collectibles in an exclusive two-day sale on MattelCreations.com.
There are so many delightful collectibles that will empty your wallet and possibly bank account, and it includes a Hot Wheels Knight Rider K.I.T.T. die-cast car (US$35), a MEGA Masters of the Universe By the Power of Grayskull Building set (US$30), and my personal favorite: Jurassic World Hammond Collection Outhouse Chaos Set (US$80).
The Jurassic Park Outhouse set lets you recreate the iconic scene from the original Jurassic Park movie in which Donald Gennaro famously deserted the group to hide in an outhouse where he was eaten off the toilet.
The set comes with a posable Donald Gennaro figure, a destructible outhouse complete with lights and sounds, and a deluxe T-rex with rain droplets deco on the skin, premium glass eyes, and a posable tongue (?!), and stretchable jaw tendons, so it can devour Donald.
For those who are wondering why the MEGA Masters of the Universe By the Power of Grayskull is just 30 bucks… well, it is not the full castle. The 449-piece set lets you build the entrance with a very neat gimmick. At a turn of the hidden wheel, you can “transform” Adam into He-Man.
The packaging is also part of the play. It opens up to a backdrop of the Castle Grayskull facade that is a pull piece with an image of He-Man raising his sword under the Castle Grayskull. Very cool play feature, IMHO.
Meanwhile, the Hot Wheels Knight Rider K.I.T.T. is a 1:64 scale model that recreates the Pontiac Trans Am ride with a working LED Anamorphic Equalizer, a detailed interior, and Real Rider tires.
The working LED light is powered by a rechargeable battery, rechargeable via a USB port under the car.
