Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Alpine Motors surprises with a 100% electric A110 E-ternité at the French Formula 1 Grand Prix. As the name suggests, A110 E-ternité is essentially an electrification of the existing A110 which also features a driver’s personal tablet/infotainment, a state-of-the-art audio system with 8 speakers, and innovative materials that combine performance and sustainability.
Billed as “a real rolling laboratory”, the Alpine A110 E-ternité is a 100% electric open-top car that, while electric, retains the marque’s legendary agility with a lightness not seen in electric cars in this segment. The bulk of the weight of an EV is from the battery. The A110 E-ternité is no different.
It shares the same battery modules as the 100% electric Mégane E-Tech. In the case of the electric A110, it has 12 modules in a custom battery housing to suit A110’s internal structure. Four modules were installed in the front and the remaining eight are installed at the rear.
Despite having 12 battery modules, the overall weight was bumped up by just 258 kilograms (568 lbs) – thanks in part to a contained mass for the battery pack (392 kg/864 lbs). Thanks to the clever battery layout, it managed to achieve a 42/58 weight distribution. Speaking of the battery system, it is a 60 kWh system that has a 420 km (261 miles) WLTP range.
The Alpine 110 E-ternité is powered by the Group’s “standard” motor, paired to a high torque version of the DCT (dubbed DCT 2) specifically developed by Alpine, which allows the 178 kW/300 Nm (239 HP/221 lb-ft) EV to rocket from standstill to 100 in 4.5 seconds and achieving a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
Another major highlight of the Alpine A110 E-ternité EV is the open roof aka convertible which features a hard top made from two roof shells injected with recycled carbon.
It rolls on 18-inch forged aluminum wheels (18J7.5 front and 18J8.5 rear) wrapped in 215/40 R18 (front) and 245/40 R18 (rear) rubbers. Finally, it has the same double wishbone setup all-around as the A110 ICE but the rear axle’s lower arm is reinforced and paired with Ohlins shocks.
