Since we are on the topic of playing cards, there is also something for super fans of The Lord of the Rings too. Tennessee-based luxury playing cards company, Kings Wild Project, is developing LOTR-themed playing cards called The Lord of the Rings Playing Cards Vol. 1.
The Lord of the Rings Playing Cards Vol. 1 is an officially licensed deck based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s first The Lord of the Rings book, The Fellowship of the Ring, NOT Peter Jackson’s silver screen adaptions.
Kings Wild Project’s illustrator and founder, Jackson Robinson, hope that this would be a three-part thing just like the original books.
Each character featured in the deck is based is pulled straight from the text of The Fellowship of the Ring and presented as they have appeared in Robinson’s imagination.
Jackson has taken to Kickstarter to fund the production of The Lord of the Rings Playing Cards Vol. 1 where you can find several versions up for grab. There’s The Fellowship Standard Edition, The Fellowship Glided Edition, Kickstarter Exclusive Edition with Gold Foil Back Design, and The Fellowship Legacy Edition.
The Fellowship Legacy Edition features a collaboration between Kings Wild Project and Shire Post Mint, a fellow official licensee of The Lord of the Rings. Embedded in crimson red wax on the front of the handmade Black Walnut collector’s case is a .999 pure silver “Shire Shilling” with the coin designed and engraved by Greg Franck-Weiby.
You may also purchase an uncut sheet along with your pledge for a product. You can learn more about The Lord of the Rings Playing Cards Vol. 1 at its Kickstarter page as well as on Kings Wild Project’s website.
The Lord of the Rings Playing Cards Vol. 1 is licensed by Middle-earth Enterprises and can be had for a starting price of US$12 from Kickstarter. It is worthy to note that the campaign was overwhelmingly funded, rolling in a little over half a million dollars to date. If you want one, you ought to act on it fast because the campaign will end in 5 days.
