The alluring, smooth camera bump found on Oppo Find X3, has made its way to its successor, the Oppo Find X5. It is not a typo. There’s no X4. For some reason unknown to us, Oppo decided to give the number ‘4’ a miss and jump straight to Oppo Find X5.
Not going to lie. The aesthetic momentarily takes all attention away from what’s under the hood. Like the X3 Series, the Oppo Find X5 Series has a camera bump that is part of the phone’s back cover.
However, this time around, instead of a square, the bump is slanted at the bottom to conform to a typical hand holding it. With the slant, it is even more organic and somehow, looked even more natural.
Even more amazing is, the entire back is of ceramic. Now, that is one phone you don’t want a case on (but you probably want to because it will pain you if the pristine device is damaged).
But here’s the thing, like the X3, the smooth flowing camera bump is only on the Pro. The non-Pro model, while sharing a similar design is more like Oppo’s foldable smartphone; the bump gradually form but it has a top plate on it that breaks the illusion of it as a one-piece back cover.
Oppo Find X5 Series is the first Oppo device to feature Oppo-developed MariSilicon X imaging NPU and both devices also tout Hasselblad color technology.
Speaking of the camera, the Pro gets a tri-camera setup comprising of two 50 MP cameras (wide-angle with OIS and ultra-wide-angle) and a 13 MP telephoto capable of 5x hybrid optical zoom.
Other highlights of the Pro model include Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, SLR-level 5-axis Optical Image Stabilization, 5,000 mAh (2x 2,500 mAh) battery that supports 80W Supervooc flash charge, 50W wireless charging, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and a 120 Hz dynamic refresh rate 1 billion colors bionic 6.7-inch QHD+ (3,216 x 1,440 pixels) AMOLED LTPO display, IP68 rated, next-gen head dissipation system with nearly 75% larger vapor chamber, support Air Gestures, and up to 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB UFS 3.1.
The non-Pro is almost identical, but it runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 instead of the newer flagship chip. The non-Pro has a smaller 120 Hz 6.55-inch FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) AMOLED LTPS display.
It has the same camera setup with different optics but it appears to share the same front-facing camera which is a 32 MP item. Similarly, the Find X5 also gets the blessing of 80W Supervooc flash charging but with 30W wireless charging. Reverse wireless charging comes as standard for both models.
In addition to the two models, there is actually a third, a Dimensity Edition which, as the name suggests, is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9000 mobile platform. The Dimensity Edition is aesthetically identical to the Pro model.
The Oppo Find X5 has a starting price of 3,999 RMB (about US$632) and the Oppo Find X5 Pro starts at 5,999 RMB (roughly US$948). The Dimensity Edition is priced at 5,799 RMB (or around US$916).
