Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime With Tenseg Base: Toy Meets Tensegrity

There is not much science behind Transformers toys. The Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime with Tenseg Base, however, has actually has bit of science to it.

Well, the science part only with the Tenseg base which involves a structural principle called Tensegrity. Tensegrity is a portmanteau of the words ‘tension’ and ‘integrity’ and it is achieved when a discontinuous set of compression elements is opposed and balanced by a continuous tensile force (or pulling force, if you may).

The Tenseg base makes for a unique platform for dear old Optimus Prime to be displayed on because it appears as if it is floating without any support. Tensegrity was all the rage last year, btw.

The Optimus Prime figure is, of course, articulated and transformable, allowing you to convert it from a robot to a semi-truck and vice versa.

The Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime with Tenseg Base was originally a made-for-Japan product and sold only in Japan with Japanese-language instructions.

But it is now available outside of Japan and it will sell for US$61.99 when it becomes available on June 30, 2022.

Pre-order is sold out on Hasbro, but you can still pre-order it from toy retailers like Big Bad Toy Store and Dorkside Toys.
