Wait. Is Stüssy still a thing? The market is swarmed with independent labels that you’d be forgiven for not remembering this brand that emerged in the 80s. I admit. I am guilty of not remembering it until I saw this news from Dr. Martens.
The American brand born out of surf culture has teamed up with British shoemaker to release the Dr. Martens x Stüssy Workwear-inspired Collection. To call the Dr. Martens x Stüssy Workwear-inspired Collection a “collection” is an exaggeration because there are just two models in it, namely, 939 Stüssy Black and the 939 Stüssy Chestnut.
OK. You got me. It is just one model in different materials and colors. Anywho, as the product name implies, the boots are based on Dr. Martens’ very first silhouettes.
The 939 Stüssy Black features a black Wanama leather, black welt stitching, and Stüssy work gear branding which can be found as a patch sewn inside the tongue as well as a debossment across the upper.
The Black Wanama model further boasts Stüssy’s signature padded collar, utilitarian hiker-style laces, shiny black eyelets, black BEN sole, a black and yellow heel loop, and a dual-branded sock liner.
Meanwhile, 939 Stüssy Chestnut shared much of the 939 Stüssy Black except for the obvious: it has C.F Stead Desert Oasis suede and a tan leather lining, and also it has brushed silver eyelets and a matching color utilitarian hiker-style laces. And yes, it has the super cool Stüssy work gear branding, also on the inside tongue and debossed across the upper.
The Dr. Martens x Stüssy Workwear-inspired Collection, namely the 939 Stüssy Black and the 939 Stüssy Chestnut, is available now for US$160 a pair (or £159.00 in the U.K.).
